Chapter 9
Iâd landed on the G-Unit record label in late 2003, and by 2005 we were on our first international tour. I think we were in Monaco or somewhere. I felt so spoiled, because it was just me, the only girl, being treated like a princess by everyone.
I really got spoiled with my Reebok Women deal. See, 50 Cent was a marketing genius. Heâd already had the menâs line doing well, and when I came along, he suggested that it only made sense to do a G-Unit womenâs line. I got a check for that endorsement deal, was the face of the line, and I got free kicks. I had boxes of every sneaker you can think of, in every color, coming in each month. Then I got to custom make them with the Oâs on it. What! You couldnât tell me I wasnât Orville Redenbacher himself, popping! I had a different sneaker on the road every day. Killing âem, you hear me!
I was in my early 20s now, so this was the life for me. Because I was getting so much stuff for free for myself, that left room for me to finally be able to buy my mom that expensive ticket item Iâd been waiting to purchase for her all those years.
I walked into this store like I was ready to buy the entire place. I had my cousin Jackie with me. I took Jackie everywhere because she was my assistant.
âDo you need any help?â one of the clerks in the store walked over to us and asked.
âYes, maâam,â I replied. âIâd love it if you could show me some fabulous furs.â
âIâm scared of you, Miss First Lady of G-Unit,â Jackie teased. âI guess you gonâ be styling for real.â
The smile on my face matched the huge one on hers as I thought about what I was going to do with that fur. âNo, Iâm getting it for Mommy,â I proudly stated. Iâd been waiting since the days of watching her spin around in the mirrors at Macyâs to finally be able to buy my mom something as lavish as this. Well, today was the day.
âHow sweet,â the clerk said. âIs it her birthday or something?â
âNo, itâs just because,â I said.
In no time at all the clerk and another woman she got to help her brought out a few pieces for me to look at. This one piece in particular caught my eye. âJackie, Mommy will love this,â I exclaimed with my eyes all bright. It was the prettiest shade of peach/coral I had ever seen. Soft and pretty, just like my mommy.
âItâs sheepskin,â the clerk pointed out.
âTry this on, J,â I turned and said to Jackie, handing her the fur. âYou and Mommy are about the same size.â
Jackie slid into that baby and twirled around in that fur so much that she had us all dizzy!
âOkay, all right already,â I said, laughing. âJ, it fits. We get it. You love it, but my mommy is going to love it more.
